The Library Media Center functions as an information center of the school and provides access to materials in all formats from all curriculum content areas. The library media program is based on the belief that reading and research are fundamental to successful life-long learning.
Meet the librarian
My name is Liz Ford and this is my first year as the media specialist at the Madison Primary School. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Virginia and a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of South Carolina. I have eight years of teaching experience and five years in the library and technology field.
It is my hope to create a learning commons for the children – a place where they can come and actively explore books and technology with their classmates, and hopefully get lost in them!
Policies & Procedures
Every week your child will have the opportunity to check out one book from the library. Read! Read! Read with your child! They are so excited to share their book with you, so work hard to carve out some time to sit quietly and explore the book with your child.
The lending period is one week and books are due back on your child’s library day (which will occur on the same day every week). If your child forgets to return their book, fear not! They will be allowed to check out another book, not to exceed two books out at a time.
Be sure to encourage your child to take care of their books so we can keep them in circulation for years to come! Books should be kept safe, clean, and dry.
Sometimes it may seem as though the book is above your child’s reading level, but that is OKAY! A child can “read” a book and walk away with a lot of information and improved skills just by looking at the pictures.
